PONDICHERRY, FEB. 17. Speakers at the 17th national conference of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), have underscored the need for the formation of a third front by the Left parties. Inaugurating the four-day conference today, the RSP general secretary, K. Pankajakshan, said that an "opportune time" had now emerged for the formation of such a front and there should be no hesitation by any of the Left parties in taking the initiative. The secretary of the West Bengal unit of the RSP, Debabrata Bandopadhyaya, said the party's support to the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre, led by the Congress, depended on the implementation of provisions of the Common Minimum Programme. The member of the RSP Central Secretariat, Kshiti Goswami, said the time had come to launch a battle against exploitation. The secretary of the Kerala RSP unit and member of the Central Secretariat, T.J. Chandrachoodan, said that all Left parties should be united to form a third alternative and it was "highly imperative that such a front came into existence sooner than later."
