By Our Staff Reporter

KANCHEEPURAM, FEB. 17. The Principal District Judge, Chengalpattu, G.M. Akbar Ali, today granted anticipatory bail for Nadira Banu, an advocate practising in the Kancheepuram Court, whose name figured in the complaint given by the accused-turned-approver in the Sankararaman murder case, Ravi Subramaniam to the Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate-I, G. Uthamaraj, on February 10.

The approver has stated in his complaint that Ms. Banu and Ms. Revathi, advocates, had met him in sub-jail, Kancheepuram and offered money to turn against the police in the murder case.

The judge said that in the event of the arrest in connection with the matter the petitioner (Nadira Banu) was ordered to be released on bail on her executing a bond for Rs. 5,000 with two sureties, each for a like sum to the satisfaction of the Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate-I.

The petitioner (Ms. Banu) should abide by the conditions as contemplated under Section 438 of CrPC failing which the order shall stand dismissed, the Judge said in his order.

Meanwhile, the Kancheepuram Bar Association withdrew its court boycott protest following the assurances given by the Chief Justice, Madras High Court, the District Judge, Chengalpattu and the Member-Secretary, State Legal Services Authority that necessary action would be taken on the Bar's memorandum seeking protection to the lawyers, whose names have been cited in Ravi Subramaniam's complaint.

It has been decided to attend court proceedings from Monday.

Vellore lawyers stay away

In Vellore, lawyers boycotted all the courts today protesting against the action of the Kancheepuram police in "foisting" a case on two Kancheepuram women lawyers.

By a resolution passed at a joint meeting of the general councils of the Bar Association, Vellore, and the Advocates Association, Vellore, convened by R. Santhanam and M. Baskaran, presidents of the respective associations here, on Wednesday, it was decided by the two bodies that their members would boycott all the courts here on Thursday and Friday over the above issue.
