HYDERABAD, FEB. 17. The Congress MLA, G. Venkat Reddy, has said the Congress Government, led by Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, is "cohesive, transparent, responsible and accountable" and committed to fulfil its poll promises. Initiating a discussion on the motion of vote of thanks on the Governor's address in the Assembly here on Thursday, Mr. Reddy sought the cooperation of everyone to bring back the glory of Indira Gandhi's regime. The `Rajiv palle baata' and `Rajiv nagara baata' were two initiatives to redress the sufferings of people. He called upon the Telugu Desam Party to cooperate with the Government to complete the major irrigation projects. He strongly advocated inter linking of rivers for all-round development of the farm sector. Defending the new excise policy, Mr. Reddy termed the TDP criticism unjustified. Hailing the Government initiative on peace talks, he exuded confidence that the efforts would fructify.
Ryots' problems
On free power, Mr. Venkat Reddy said the Government would stand by its promise. The Government was sincere in implementing the recommendations of the Jayathi Ghosh Commission report on farmer's problems. He welcomed the Government's drive to fill posts. Mr. Reddy said the decision to conduct surgery for all the 6,000 children suffering from heart ailment was a credible work. The Minorities in the State would get reservations after the Andhra Pradesh BC Commission submitted its report.
Plea for reforms
He made a strong plea for administrative reforms and suggested constitution of a committee to study the readjustment of boundaries of villages. The Congress member pleaded for better coordination between MLAs and officials. Mr. Reddy criticised the previous TDP Government for its lopsided policies. Winding up his speech, Mr. Venkat Reddy sought the permission of the Chief Minister to inform the House that the Congress had taken a decision to set up Second States Reorganisation Commission. Earlier, Mr. Venkat Reddy said he was a strong proponent of united Andhra Pradesh and felt that regional imbalances could be bridged but creation of a separate State was not the solution.
