NEW DELHI, FEB. 17. The CBI today conducted raids at the residential and official premises of suspended Haryana cadre IAS officer Sanjeev Kumar, who had blown the lid off the Junior Basic Trained (JBT) teachers' appointment scam in Haryana in 2000. The CBI spokesman said the agency staff raided 16 places in Delhi, Chandigarh, Karnal, Gurgaon and his native village in Jharkhand to unearth incriminating documents. The house of his businessman friend in Vasant Kunj and a chartered accountant at South Extension, who acted as conduits, had also been raided. Then Director, Primary Education, Sanjeev Kumar, a 1989 batch IAS officer, had filed a writ in the Supreme Court alleging that the Om Prakash Chautala Government had resorted to corrupt practices while recruiting 3208 Junior Basic Trained (JBT) teachers in 2000. The Apex Court in its order on November 25, 2003 had directed the CBI to take up the investigation of the case. The court had also directed the CBI to investigate into two regular cases and three inquiries instituted by the Government of Haryana against Sanjeev Kumar. On May 26 last year, the CBI had conducted raids in 24 places in Haryana including the residential and official premises of senior IAS officer Vidyadhar to unearth evidence against the officials involved in the recruitment of teachers. The official and residential premises of then OSD to the Chief Minister and IAS officer Vidyadhar, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister Sher Singh Batshyami, alleged conduits Mahinder Khanna and Ajaypal Kaswam, Chairpersons and Members of the District Level Selection Committee in Ambala, Bhiwani, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjir, Jind, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Mahindergarh, Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, Rewari, Sirsa, Sonepat and Yamunanagar were raided and several incriminating documents seized. The investigation so far revealed that there were two sets of list of candidates, one by Sanjeev Kumar and the other released by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO). The first list by the Director was released on September 16, 2000, whereas the other one was made public by CMO after a few days. -- UNI
