Repoll today in 262 Bihar booths

By Our Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB. 17 . The Election Commission today ordered repoll in 290 booths in Bihar and Jharkhand where voting took place on February 15.

Repoll will be held tomorrow in 262 places in Bihar and 28 in Jharkhand along with three Assembly constituencies in Bihar — Bahera, Jale and Ghanshyampur, where polling was postponed owing to inadequate security.

The Commission said repoll in Bihar would be spread over Katihar, Madhepura, Kishanganj, Supaul, Munger, Samastipur, Begusarai, Purnia, Araria, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Khagaria and Madhubani districts.

In Jharkhand, it would be in the districts of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Ranchi and Gumla. The repoll order follows malfunctioning of electronic voting machines in some booths and silent rigging in a majority of polling stations, which reported more than 68 per cent voting.

The registers and the rolls were verified and it was found that bogus-voting had taken place.
