Students contribute

NEW DELHI FEB. 17. The staff members of Janakpuri and Meera Bagh branches of St. Mark's School have contributed Rs. 56,860 and Rs. 54,566 respectively to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for the tsunami victims. The management of both these institutions also contributed Rs. 42,000 to the Fund. For their part, the students contributed rice, pulses, refined oil, tea leave and other items for the victims. This collection was forwarded to the tsunami victims through a non-government organisation, "Goonj".

Sant Rajinder welcomed

NEW DELHI FEB. 17. The President of the World Council of Religions, Sant Rajinder Singhji Maharaj, who arrived at Faridabad this past Wednesday for a one-day camp, was accorded a warm welcomed by the large gathering.

While the children of Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission (SKRM) presented a song in honour of the spiritual leader, its secretary spoke of the activities of the Mission and the work done for the upliftment of the weaker sections of society including the setting up of 12 sewing centres to help economically backward women to become self-reliant.

Students accorded farewell

NEW DELHI FEB. 17. The 16th batch of Class XII students of Vidya Devi Jindal School at Hisar was accorded an official farewell this past Wednesday. After the ritualistic lighting of candles symbolising the light of knowledge to dispel the darkness of ignorance, the outgoing batch was presented the school mementos.

The VDJS principal, Shyama Kriplani, reminded the students on how their alma mater had helped them in preparing for the challenges of life. The farewell ceremony concluded with a photograph session of Class XII students with their teachers.

Pensioners' gesture

NEW DELHI FEB. 17. The Trans-Yamuna Pensioners' Association has collected a sum of Rs. 1.35 lakhs for the tsunami victims. The amount collected from pensioner members and other has been contributed to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.

Polio drive

next Sunday

NEW DELHI FEB. 17. The Delhi Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Yoganand Shastri, today said the next Pulse Polio Programme would be organised on February 27 instead of February 20.

This change has been done in view of the Moharram festival which falls on February 20.

Dr. Shastri said that like the previous programmes, polio vaccine would be administered to children below five years at the 7,000-odd booths across the city. About 32,000 employees of various departments and agencies will be deployed on duty on that day.
