Tihar inmate donates Rs. 5 lakh
NEW DELHI,
FEB. 17.
In a heart-warming gesture from behind the bars, an inmate of Tihar Jail has contributed Rs. 5 lakh for tsunami-affected people and expressed desire to donate Rs. 67 lakh for the prison's development.
Susan D'Souza, jailed on charges of cheating and writing cheques which bounced, recently received a grant of USD 3 million from an American NGO for developmental activities in India. She donated Rs. 5 lakh from this amount for tsunami-affected people and expressed desire to give Rs. 67 lakh for the welfare of Asia's largest jail, a Tihar Jail spokesman said today.
However, prison officials were yet to accept her offer of the money for its development, the spokesman added.
