UDUPI, FEB. 17. Sri Kalahasta Swamiji took over as head of Srimad Anegundi Samsthan Saraswati Peetha of Belagutti Mutt, at the Sri Kalikamba Vishwakarmeshwara Temple, Katapady, here on Thursday. Elaborate rituals marked the "Sanyasa Grahana" and "Gurudeeksha Mahotsava." Sri Shivasujnana Murti Swamiji of Sri Vishwakarma Sujnana Jagadguru Peetha, Hassan, administered the "Gurudeeksha" to Sri Kalahasta Swamiji in front of the "Vrindavana" of the earlier pontiff of the Belagutti Mutt, the late Sri Nagadharmendra Swamiji, under the auspicious "Meena Lagna." The religious rituals were conducted under the supervision of the priest, N.B. Chandrashekhar Acharya. Later, the "peetharohana" ceremony of Sri Kalahasta Swamiji was held. A large number of devotees were present on the occasion. Addressing the devotees after his "peetharohana," Sri Kalahasta Swamiji said that the aim of Belagutti Mutt is the all-round development of the community. Emphasis will be laid on giving education, based on cultural values, to all. The peetha wants the people to be religious and culturally inclined. It will aim at the unity of all members of the Vishwakarma community, he said. The managing trustee of the temple, K. Vishwanath Acharya, was present. The ceremonies connected with the "Sanyasa Grahana" and other religious rituals, which started here on February 13, ended today. Sri Kalahasta Swamiji succeeds the late Sri Nagadharmendra Swamiji, who passed away in 1905. The "peetha" of the Mutt was vacant for 100 years. The Mutt has eight lakh followers, with its jurisdiction from Gokarna in Uttara Kannada district to Kasaragod in Kerala. Sri Kalahasti Swamiji was born at Shikaripur in Shimoga district on July 22, 1976. He had his pre-university education at Gadag. He studied literature and Advaita philosophy at Maharaja Sanskrit Vidyalaya in Mysore. He holds B.Com, M.A. in Sanskrit, and Hindi Ratna degrees.
