Dies of burns

Fifty-year-old V. Lakshamma, who suffered severe burns in the major fire that broke out in Singareni Colony in Saidabad recently, died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital. She was the wife of Sai Muthyalu. Both were labourers, the Saidabad police said.

Succumb to injuries

A farmer, M. Narsimhulu (35) of Bandi Medapally village of Peddamul, who was allegedly beaten up by four persons on February 15, died on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital. The police said that dispute over a land might be the reason behind the attack. The Peddamul police are investigating.

An Associate Project Director with ASCI, P. Madhu (26), who suffered serious injuries when the motorcycle he was driving was hit by a van at Boduppal on February 13, died on Thursday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The Uppal police registered a case.

Man dies after assault

A 45-year-old man, who was reportedly beaten up by two youths under Alwal police station limits on February 14, died later. It was learnt that M. Ashok complained of chest pain on Wednesday and died after being shifted to a hospital. Two persons - Ravi and Ashwini -- were believed to have thrashed him on February 14 over a dispute. The Alwal police are investigating.

Pirated VCDs seized

The North Zone Task Force team raided Yuvaraju Electronics at Parsigutta and seized 580 pirated VCDs and 15 pornographic VCDs. The shop owner, Ashok Kumar, was arrested.

Held on theft charge

Sleuths of the Central Crime Station (CCS) have arrested a person for allegedly looting Arihat Jewellers at Chikkadpally. He allegedly had taken away four kg of gold ornaments and Rs. 3 lakhs in cash on February 5. The police are believed to have recovered the stolen jewellery.

Case against RI

The Saifabad police have registered a case against a Mandal Revenue Inspector, Bhanuchander, for allegedly producing a fake letter of the Karnataka Chief Minister regarding his transfer.

In a complaint lodged by P. Subramanyam, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, it was stated that Bhanuchander, who is posted in Nellore district, produced a bogus letter stating that he got it from the Karnataka Chief Minister, to issue orders for his posting at Saddapuram.
