Show-cause notice to TV channel

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, FEB. 17. The Hyderabad Police Commissioner, V. Dinesh Reddy, on Thursday issued a show-cause notice to a Telugu news channel for flashing a news scroll stating that he had abstained from appearing before the High Court even after being summoned by it in some case.

In the copy of the notice, which was released to the media, Mr. Reddy maintained that no directions were issued asking him to be present in the Court by any judge of the High Court. "The channel has fabricated the news with an intention to defame me in the public. This is tantamount to spreading disinformation, defamation and rumour mongering in the people and also the rank and file of the City Police," he stated.

The Commissioner said it also amounted to an offence punishable under various sections of the IPC and the City Police Act.

He demanded an apology from the television channel and the telecast of the correct version.
