Temperature

TIRUCHI, FEB.17 . The city today registered a maximum temperature of 35.8 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature is 20.5 degree Celsius.

End lives

A couple belonging to Konalai in Siruganur limits committed suicide by consuming poison last night.

Manikandan (30) and Suganthi (23) ended their lives due to dejection over the former's ill health. The Siruganur police have registered a case.

Six held

The Woraiyur police today arrested six brokers, who were reportedly engaged in a brawl at the K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College Hospital, over transporting dead bodies from the mortuary to the destinations.

Students hospitalised

Twenty-two students residing at the Adi Dravida Welfare Hostel developed nausea due to suspected food poisoning tonight.

While one was admitted to the K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College Hospital, others were treated as out patients and discharged, police sources said.

Competitions

The Directorate of Field Publicity conducted `Mime and Slogan Writing' competitions for NSS volunteers of Jamal Mohamed College at their camp in Thirumalai Samuthiram to create an awareness of AIDS.

The village president, T. Gansan, gave away prizes to winners. The students were judged by a jury committee consisting of M. Therasnathan, Field Publicity Officer, A. Petchiammal, Mass Education and Information Officer, and S. Krishnamoorthy of Consumer Council.

Mettur level

The water level at the Mettur reservoir stood at 55.32 feet today. The inflow was 150 cusecs and the discharge nil.
