BANGALORE, FEB. 17. On the basis of photographs taken by hidden cameras at ATMs, the Viveknagar police arrested four youths who had allegedly robbed students and software engineers in the city. The names of the arrested were given as Wasim (22), Fazal alias Kaalu (19), Mohammed Irfan (20) and Tauseef alias Farooq (23). The police said Wasim was the younger brother of Nusru, who was arrested a few years ago for allegedly kidnapping over a dozen live band artistes. The four-member gang identified the houses of software engineers and students from other States residing here. In the night, they went to these houses and approached the students or engineers stating that they had assaulted one of their friends, the police said. After threatening them with weapons, the gang robbed them of cash, gold ornaments and other valuables. They also took the victims' ATM cards and withdrew cash from different ATMs, the police said. When the accused withdrew money from an ATM in BTM Layout recently, using ATM cards of some students residing in Ejipura, the hidden cameras captured their images. These photographs were shown to the victims and they told the police that the photographs were of those who had robbed them, the police said. A police team arrested the accused on February 15.
