Labourer electrocuted

BANGALORE, FEB. 17. A labourer, Rahul (24), was electrocuted when he was demolishing an old building on Kanakapura Road, off M.N. Krishna Rao Park, in Basavanagudi police station limits around 10.30 a.m. on Thursday. The police said the electricity supply to the building was not properly disconnected.

Sentenced

The IV Fast Track Court of Bangalore Rural district has convicted and sentenced Palanivelu of Whitefield to seven years rigorous imprisonment for being responsible for his wife's suicide. On April 30, 2001, Palanivelu's wife, Suma alias Sulochana, committed suicide by consuming insecticide. Her mother, Sharadamma, had lodged a complaint with the Whitefield police that Suma committed suicide as Palanivelu tortured her for more dowry.

The Anti-Dowry Cell of the CoD had investigated the case and filed a charge sheet against Palanivelu in the court.
