NEW DELHI, FEB. 17. Even as the Delhi police are yet to finalise the sketch of the man who attacked the Delhi University lecturer, Syed Abdul Rahman Geelani, on February 8, they questioned a former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student in connection with the case today. The police have been visiting Mr. Geelani at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences here regularly over the past couple of days to get a clearer picture of the sequence of events and also the attacker. Mr. Geelani had told the police that the assailant was of a medium build, wheatish complexion, trimmed hair but unshaven, and did not wear spectacles. The police are also making efforts to trace a person from Jammu and Kashmir who used to meet Mr. Geelani at Tihar Central Jail where he was lodged after being accused of being involved in the Parliament attack case. The man also used to meet convicts of the Parliament attack case, Mohammad Afzal and Shaukat Guru, the police said. While the police are working on the identities and whereabouts of other people who used to meet Mr. Geelani in jail, they are also said to be in touch with their Srinagar counterparts to find out details of his visits to the State after his acquittal in the case from the Delhi High Court. However, the police do not have any concrete leads. The Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ranjit Narayan, said they were working on all possible angles and questioning people who could provide some clues to the attack. The police are also awaiting the report of the medical board which had been set up to analyse the nature of injuries sustained by Mr. Geelani. They are also awaiting the forensic report from Ahmedabad where they have sent Mr.Geelani's computer and bloodstained clothes for analysis. There were also reports that the police had seized two jackets from Mr. Geelani's house and sent it to the forensic laboratory. They were, however, not sure whether Mr. Geelani was wearing any one of them at the time of the incident. After the police had recovered the pullover, there were reports that Mr. Geelani was also wearing a jacket when he was shot at. Meanwhile, Mr. Geelani is still recuperating at AIIMS.
