dated February 19,1955: Polling in Andhra

The third batch of 33 constituencies spread over the 11 districts of Andhra went to the polls on February 18 to elect 37 members, including three representatives of the Scheduled Caste and one representative of the Scheduled Tribe, to the State Assembly. The first leg of the staggered polling was held on February 13 in 35 constituencies and the second on February 15 in 34 constituencies. The present batch of constituencies covers a total population of 41,21,911 of whom 21,92,046 have the right to vote. The United Congress Front is contesting all the 37 seats. Among the prominent candidates are Mr. B. Gopala Reddi, APCC President, Mr. K. Chandramouli, PCC Secretary, Mr. P.V.G. Raju, Secretary of the Andhra PSP, and Mr. P. Thimma Reddi, former Minister. On February 22, the next group of 34 constituencies will go to the polls and the last batch of 30 on February 27.
