HYDERABAD, FEB. 18. The president of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), G. Sanjeeva Reddy, on Friday underscored the need for INTUC to be given political recognition. He was speaking at a gathering after being felicitated on his 75th birthday, which was celebrated at the Prakasam Hall in Gandhi Bhavan. Mr. Reddy said a worker-friendly labour policy was required and the path should be paved for workers to become shareholders in the company's progress. He regretted the lack of political recognition for INTUC members, who strived hard for the company and even laid down their lives, as in the case of those working in the Singareni Collieries. The Labour Minister, G. Vinod, in response to a memorandum submitted to him by workers of Voltas, said that the Government was trying to make the union sit and discuss things. The APCC president, K. Kesava Rao, spoke. Among those who participated in the celebrations included the Minister for Cooperation, K. Laxminarayana.
