Drive against encroachments

KOCHI, FEB. 18. Kochi Corporation continued its demolition drive against encroachments along the banks of major canals in the city.

The civic authorities also razed a wall constructed by a councillor at Koithara canal near Thevara. Corporation officials had earlier removed unauthorised constructions along Thevara-Perandoor canal.

Office-bearers elected

The district conference of the Communist Party of India elected Mundakayam Sadasivan as the district secretary. The meeting also elected a 45-member district council and 55 delegates to the State conference. In resolutions adopted at the conference, the party demanded withdrawal of the Seed Act and the Patent Ordinance promulgated by the Union Government.

No power

Power supply to Lakshmi Hospital, Paliyam Road and Meenakshi Apartment will be disrupted on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. due to maintenance work.
