Painting competition

NEW DELHI FEB. 19. The Rotary Club of Delhi today organised a painting competition for school children on the theme "My Metro''.

About 700 children from various schools located near the newly- opened Underground Metro line running between Kashmere Gate and Vishwa Vidyalaya metro stations participated in the competition. An eminent panel representing artists, members of Rotary International and Delhi Metro judged the paintings made by students using pencils, crayons and water- colours.

The award- winning paintings would be displayed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation at the Kashmere Gate metro station here.

High Commissioner felicitated

New Delhi Feb. 19: The Indo-Fiji Friendship Society and Bharat Krishak Samaj Delhi unit, organised a function to felicitate India's High Commissioner designate to Fiji, Ajay Singh, in New Delhi this past week. The Fiji High Commissioner to India, Luke Rokovada, expressed hope for better political, trade and financial relations between the two countries. Former Union Minister, Ram Niwas Mirdha presided over the function, while Narendra Rana of Bharat Krishak Samaj was the convenor. The function was also attended by the New Zealand High Commissioner, Grahaem C. Waters. The High Commissioner designate, Ajay Singh, said that he would work towards better relationships between the people of two countries.

Road to be renamed

NEW DELHI FEB. 19 . The naming ceremony of the Kaifi Azmi Marg -- adjacent to Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, -- would be held on February 22.

The underlying objective behind naming of the road after the renowned poet and lyricist Kaifi Azmi is to commemorate his achievements. The Lok Sabha Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee, will be the chief guest on the occasion. Mr. Chatterjee will also inaugurate a function that will be presided over by the AICC general secretary, Ambika Soni.

Besides the Chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification, Sharmila Tagore, actress and former Rajya Sabha member Shabana Azmi and Hindi film lyricist, Javed Akhtar, Chairman of DPS Society, Narendra Kumar and Principal of the school, Shyma Chona, would be present on the occasion.

Annual Day

NEW DELHI FEB. 19 . The Amity International School, Noida, celebrated its primary Annual Day at its premises on Friday.

The Chairperson of the Amity International School, Amita Chauhan, lighted the traditional lamp that was followed by the rendering of shlokas. Ms. Chauhan released the second issue of the primary school's creative magazine titled "Creatika" that contains pieces of art, poetry and prose.

The school's objective of the holistic development of the child was highlighted on the occasion.

The founder- President of Ritnand Blaved Education Foundation, A.K. Chauhan, shared his "triple excellence formula" with the main thrust of achieving excellence in various fields of education.
