Himachal Pradesh

SHIMLA, FEB.19. The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh, has once again reminded the entrepreneurs who are setting up new industries in the State about the mandatory condition of providing employment to the local people. While speaking at the single window clearance and monitoring authority meeting, he said that at all levels people from the state should be given employment and in all 70 per cent of total employment should be given to the locals. The State government today cleared 18 small and large industrial units involving an investment of Rs 359 crores with an employment potential to 3175 persons at different levels. Mr. Virbhadra Singh claimed that the State had so far succeeded in attracting investment of worth Rs. 8,869 crores by sanctioning 4,568 industrial units during last two years with an employment potential of 1,57,986 persons in the industrial sector only. He said the government is committed to give benefits to the people of the state and would create skilled manpower to meet the industrial requirements. It must be reminded that the industry has failed in giving employment to the locals and has brought cheap labour from states like Orissa, Bihar and Jharkhand. At top level there are hardly any qualified people in the state and those jobs also go to the outsiders. But because of a special industrial package more and more industrialists are getting attracted to set up their units here after the claims of a "power surplus state" made by the government.
