Budget misleading, says BJP

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, FEB. 19. The BJP has charged that the higher allocation for the irrigation sector in the budget were merely on paper and aimed at misleading people as the Government had spent less than 40 per cent of the amount earmarked for various projects this year.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, BJP leaders -- N. Indrasena Reddy, S.V. Seshagiri Rao and K. Laxman, said that only Rs.1,627 crores of the Rs. 4,222 crores allocated for irrigation were utilised so far.

The utilised amount also included the money paid for advance mobilisation.

Citing examples, they said that Rs.200 crores was allocated for the Telugu Ganga project, but the amount spent so far was Rs.122 crores. Only Rs. 21 crores of the Rs. 50 crores sanctioned for Vamsadhara was expended till now. Similarly, Rs.12 crores of the Rs.50 crores allocated for Galeru-Nagari project was spent.

They said the budget had `deceived' people by not implementing any of the promises made to people.
