HYDERABAD, FEB. 19. The Government here on Saturday postponed the opening of all the price bids received for all the 12 (medium) packages of the Nettampadu project going by the reports that cost estimates prepared by officials for them were high benefiting contractors. Officials in the Commissionerate of Tenders and the Technical Committee in the Irrigation Department have been asked to take a re-look at the estimates. If the estimates are found reasonable and in tune with the ground realities, the price bids may be opened on Monday. If they are found higher, the bids are likely to be scrapped. The 65 empanelled contractors of medium packages offered these price bids based on the estimates.
Saving
Meanwhile, the Government opened and scrutinised the price bids covering the rest of the 18 medium packages posted for the day. These works would be awarded to contractors in two to three days after further scrutiny by the Technical Committee and the High Power Committee. These packages are worth Rs 1,112 crores. The Engineer-in-Chief, B. V. S. Prakasa Rao, said later that the excess quoted in all these cases was far below the stipulated 5 per cent and claimed a saving of Rs 158 crores. The Government will also open price bids relating to 30 major packages on Monday worth Rs 5,000 crores.
