VIJAYAWADA, FEB. 19. G. Madhavan Nair, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation and Space Commission, has been selected for the Dr. Nayudamma Memorial Award for the year 2004. The award, instituted by Dr. Nayudamma Memorial Trust, Tenali, in 1986 to commemorate the distinguished scientist and internationally renowned leather technologist, is given to the persons chosen for their significant contribution to the development of science and technology in the country. Mr. Madhavan Nair has been chosen for the award for his outstanding contribution to the country's space research and satellite development programme. The award will be presented to Mr. Madhavan Nair at a special function to be held in Tenali, the home town of Dr. Nayudamma in Guntur district. The recipient will deliver the 13th Dr. Nayudamma memorial lecture on the theme `development of rocket technology,' according to P. Vishnu Murthy, founder and managing trustee of Dr. Nayudamma Memorial Trust. Mr. Madhavan Nair is a leading technologist in the field rocket systems and has made significant contributions to the development of multi-stage satellite launch vehicles achieving self-reliance in independent access to space using indigenous technology.
