BELLAMPALLI (ADILABAD DT.), FEB. 19. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Saturday reiterated his Government's commitment to an Indian Institute of Technology at Basar. He said pressure was being mounted on the Central Government towards this. He was addressing an impromptu press conference at the helipad at Bellampalli town when he was about to board the helicopter after participating `Rajiv nagara baata' at Kagaznagar and Bellampalli Municipalities. About the new excise policy, Dr. Reddy reiterated that there were no new features in this policy. It was continuation of the previous Telugu Desam regime's policies. On the issue of encouragement of the private sector in production of coal, the Chief Minister replied in the affirmative. Referring to pattas to the forestland under encroachment by tribals, Dr. Reddy said the issue concerned the Union Government hence much could not be done about it. Similarly, to a demand for amendment to the Land Transfer Regulation Act 1 of 1970, he assured amendment within the ambit of legality.
