Finding sponsors, a difficult task

VISAKHAPATNAM, FEB. 19. A major sports meet is commencing here and at Bhimavaram on Sunday but the organisers could make an announcement about it only on Saturday.

The Andhra Cricket Association, which is celebrating its golden jubilee, has been allotted the second under-18 Junior National hockey championship.

The Rs. 14-lakh estimated expenditure was a tall order for the locals and the AHA and the DHA requested the IHF to postpone the event.

The IHF expressed its inability to postpone the event and informed that the meet would be held as scheduled on Feb. 20.

The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh's Managing Director, Sumitra Dawra, promised Rs. 3 lakhs. The AHA president, Jesudanam garnered Rs. 3 lakhs and the rest of the amount has to be made up by the AHA and DHA.

The office-bearers of the DHA along with the AHA are hopeful that they can get the required support from the sponsors. Visakhapatnam Port Trust has agreed to provide accommodation to the players at its indoor stadium in addition to granting permission for conducting matches in the outdoor stadium, and in the MCV Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium. The KGRL College is providing accommodation to the players in the college premises.
