VIJAYAWADA, FEB. 19. The Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham has said that the budget for the year 2005-06 introduced in the Legislative Assembly by the Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah, has `partly' come out of the influence of the World Bank. But much still remains to be done to bring the farm and cooperation sectors out of the crisis. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the sangham president, Kolli Nageswara Rao, said unlike the `anti-people' and `World Bank-dictated' financial bills of the previous years, the present budget had provision for free power to farmers with less than three connections while impressive allocations were made to the major and medium irrigation projects. At the same time, decisions like winding up of cooperative societies and privatisation of market yards indicated that the Government was yet to fully come out of the influence of the World Bank. "The Government should, therefore, take steps to implement recommendations made by the Commission headed by Jayati Ghosh to mitigate the crisis faced by the farm sector," he said.
