NEW DELHI, FEB.19. The cardiology unit of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has introduced an "adopt the neighbourhood scheme'' wherein it would interact with the various residential welfare organisations and exhort them to instil in residents healthy and heart protecting habits, thereby ensuring that these new friends remain "healthy and fighting fit''. Under the scheme, which should be underway by March this year, doctors will educate health trainers about how to help people in maintaining records of regular health check-up, make them recognise early symptoms of a heart attack, teach them how to deal with heart attacks, inform them on the ABC of taking care of a person having a heart attack and also give lessons on how to maintain a healthy life style. The Head of Cardiology unit, K. Srinath Reddy, said the new programme had been introduced only in South Delhi and would directly benefit the people.
