BELLARY, FEB. 20. Brucepet police, led by Inspector M.R. Reddy and Sub-inspector Sudhakar, arrested a person and seized 1.81 kg of gold. The value of the gold ornaments was put at Rs. 9 lakhs. The Superintendent of Police, Pankaj Kumar Thakur, told presspersons here on Sunday that the police, on a tip off, nabbed a person who was moving around the private bus stand, near Raghava Kala Mandir, with gold ornaments kept in an aluminium box. On interrogation, the person is said to have informed that he was a cloth merchant from Mumbai. Mr. Thakur said that he did not possess any documents, including receipts or invoices in support of the gold with him or to whom he was going to meet in the city. Mr. Thakur said that going by the manner in which the person had been carrying the valuables and in the absence of any kind of document made the police suspicious. A thorough investigation will be conducted, he said.
