ANANTAPUR, FEB. 20. K. Sudhakar Babu, a senior assistant professor of chemistry in Sri Krishnadevaraya University PG centre at Kurnool has been elected secretary of southern zone chapter of the Indian Association of Chemistry Teachers (IACT) for 2005-07. Founded in 2000, the IACT has been serving as the national apex body of chemistry educators to advance the cause of chemistry education by means of curriculum development, innovations in teaching methods and experimentation besides improvement in evaluation methods. The IACT also conducts national standard examinations in chemistry and biology (NSEC and NSEB) to help students participate in Indian and international Olympiads in chemistry and biology.
Activities
The activities of IACT are organised under six zonal councils with the headquarters at Mumbai (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research). Southern zone included Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Pondichery and the Union territory of Lakshadweep. S.K. Sai Prakash, Dean of Faculty of Sciences in Osmania University, has been elected vice president of central zone.
