NIRMAL (ADILABAD DT.), FEB. 20. The Agriculture Minister, N. Raghuveera Reddy, on Sunday said that the State Government proposed changes to the crop insurance and settlement of claims policy. The proposal was pending with the Union Government. He was addressing a press conference here in the presence of the district in charge and Social Welfare Minister, Redya Naik, the Labour Minister, G. Vinod, and the MLAs -- C. Ramchander Reddy, A. Indrakaran Reddy, Koneru Konappa, and Soyam Bapu Rao -- and the district Collector, J. Sudha Rani, and the Joint Collector, A. Dinkar Babu. The Minister said the State Government was seized of the matter relating to non-settlement of crop insurance claims across the State. He said the proposals contained steps to establish a uniform policy regarding settlement of insurance claims.
Amending Seed Act
He said the Government also intended to strengthen the Seed Act in order to curb sale of spurious seeds. A draft of the proposed changes to the Act was ready, he added. The Minister said the State Government would supply seed on subsidy for late Rabi sowing. He asked the district Collector to stop immediately forcible recovery of crop loans from farmers in view of the prevailing drought.
Cheques disbursed
Earlier, the Ministers disbursed cheques to 2,716 farmers of 13 mandals in Nirmal and Boath constituencies amounting to Rs. 17 lakhs. The amount was part of the Rs. 9 crores released by the State Government towards compensation of crops lost in the January hailstorm.
