Counter for senior citizens

Sir, — There are five reservation counters at Malleswaram Railway Station. It will be a boon if the railway authorities operate one counter exclusively for senior citizens. However, if there are no senior citizens at that counter, others should be allowed to book tickets from it. It is requested that the railway authorities look into this matter and reserve one counter for senior citizens.

Maintenance of satellite towns

Sir, — Residents of Yelahanka Satellite Town are saddened by the unwieldy growth taking place in the area. People had opted to live in the area to enjoy a quite life. A number of house owners are now illegally constructing shops in their compounds, thus increasing traffic on smaller streets. Hundreds of vehicles are parked on either side of the main road and vendors occupy most of the space on the footpath.

Vehicles entering the satellite town have to pass this junction and it is now dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the road at this spot. As no traffic police constables are posted, there is always chaos in the area.

What is the use of planning satellite towns if no attention is paid to their maintenance?

Sudha Narasimhachar,

Bangalore.

Payment of BESCOM bills

Sir, — Residents of R.T. Nagar 1st Block are asked to pay electricity bills at the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) counter at Adarsha Educational Institution on some days and at the mobile counter on other days.

When people can pay telephone bills at the designated banks or post offices, why do the BESCOM authorities not make arrangements for paying electricity bills through banks and post offices? This will be more convenient for consumers.

K.T. Thimmareddy,

Bangalore.
