Man held on charge of killing wife

BANGALORE, FEB. 20. A man hit his wife with a radio set, which reportedly resulted in her death at their house in the S.R. Nagar police station limits on Saturday night.

According to police, Kuppaswamy (47), a vegetable vendor, quarrelled with his wife, Mailamma (45) over a petty issue and allegedly hit her on her head and abdomen region with a radio set and left the house. When he returned home on Sunday, he found his wife dead. The couple have three children.

The police have booked a case of murder and arrested Kuppaswamy.

Caught

Alert morning walkers on Sunday caught a person who reportedly snatched a gold chain from a woman in Mahalakshmi Layout and handed him over to police.

Police recovered the gold chain valued at Rs. 35,000 from Prakash (22) of Manjunath Nagar. Police said Prakash snatched the chain from Tangamani (55) around 7 a.m. when she was on a morning walk. Tangamani alerted the fellow walkers, who chased Prakash and caught him.

Knocked down

Muniyappa (45) of Nagarabhavi was killed when a mini lorry knocked him down near R.V. College on Mysore Road on Sunday morning.

Police said the mini-lorry, with Maharashtra registration, hit Muniyappa and sped away. Some residents admitted Muniyappa to a private hospital, where he died. Police have registered a case

Body found

The HAL police on Sunday found a body of a 35-year-old man floating in Belandur lake.

The body, the police said, could have been in the water for more than three days.

The police have registered a case.

Held for gambling

The City Crime Branch police have arrested two persons on charges of gambling near a lottery shop in Hanumanthanagar and recovered Rs. 2, 250 in cash and other articles from the accused.

Sandalwood seized

The Yelahanaka police have arrested four persons on charges of stealing sandalwood pieces and recovered sandalwood pieces worth Rs. 40,000 from them.

The police gave the names of the accused as Shrinivas (39), Ashwath (31), Manjunath (22) and Munivenkatappa (38).
