BJYM stir today

KOCHI, FEB. 20. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha will take out a march to Kanayannur taluk office on Monday in protest against the Government move to hand over Infopark to a private company under the Smart City project. As the Government had invested more than Rs.200 crores in Infopark, the new move smacks of corruption, according to the Yuva Morcha State secretary, P. Krishnadas.

Passports issued

The Regional Passport Office, Cochin, has issued passports for applications received till December 23, 2004 where police verification has been completed. Passports have been despatched in the week ending February 11, 2005, according to the Regional Passport Officer.

KWA staff to strike work

The Kerala Water Authority Employees Association will strike work on February 22 demanding the implementation of wage revision with retrospective effect from March 1, 2002, according to the general secretary of the association.

Health unit inaugurated

A reproductive child health unit was inaugurated by K.K. Ramachandran, Minister for Health, at Vypeen on Sunday. The block costing Rs. 10 lakhs was built last year and will be made functional later when the equipment for running the unit is installed. The block has a labour room-cum-operation theatre.

Two injured

in accidents

A 64-year-old man, Ashokan, was knocked down by a speeding car at 7.30 p.m. on Sunday at Vyttila Junction. The car sped away after the accident. He was admitted to the General Hospital. In another `hit and run' case, Ramnath, 19, hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, was knocked down by a car near the Ernakulam Medical Centre. He suffered fracture on the leg, according to sources.

Office shifted

The Kerala Headload Workers' Welfare Board' sub-office has been shifted from Palarivattom to the local committee office at Pookkaranmukku, according to a press release issued by the Board chairman.
