Chandrika seeks trade concessions from U.S.

By V.S. Sambandan

COLOMBO, FEB. 21. The Sri Lankan President, Chandrika Kumaratunga, on Sunday said "trade concessions" by the U.S., particularly in the apparel sector would be "most welcome" and help the country's foreign exchange earnings in the wake of the December 26 tsunami.

Ms. Kumaratunga made this request at a dinner meeting with the former U.S. Presidents, Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush last night. The two leaders said they would urge that the U.S "could create an enabling atmosphere with the trade and debt concessions sought by the Sri Lankan Government".
