MUMBAI, FEB. 21. Bilkis Yakub Rasul today deposed in camera at the sessions court in Mazgaon for about 90 minutes. However, she could not identify the accused as they were not brought to court after the police faced difficulties in arranging for their escort. The Supreme Court had transferred the case of Bilkis to Mumbai last year. The CBI Special Public Prosecutor, R.K. Shah, had said that the trial would be held in camera since it was a case of gang rape. Bilkis narrated the sequence of events that led to the incident near Chapparwad village in Dahod district on March 3, 2002. Twenty people were arrested in connection with the case of gang rape, assault and murder, in which eight persons were killed and six went missing. Bilkis, who was then five months pregnant, and two others, including a boy, survived the attack. Bilkis is the main eyewitness in the case. One of the accused, Dr. Arun Kumar, was released by the High Court on bail. His wife, Dr. Sangita Prasad, and six others have also applied for bail. Bilkis will continue her deposition tomorrow.
