Finished steel output up

NEW DELHI,
FEB. 21.
Finished steel production went up by 3.8 per cent during the first ten months of the current fiscal to 316.50 lakh tonnes from 304.86 lakh tonnes achieved in the same period in the previous financial year. Consumption of finished steel during April-January 2005 was also 6.2 per cent higher at 280 lakh tonnes against 263.65 lakh tonnes during the like period a year ago.
An official statement here said that according to provisional estimates, total production of pig iron during the ten-month period of the current financial year has been pegged at 23.85 lakh tonnes against the output of 32.87 lakh tones during the same period last year. Steel exports during the period has been estimated at 30.75 lakh tonnes, an increase of 26.24 per cent.
