Viona takes title

MANGALORE, FEB. 21. Viona D'Cunha of Lady Hill Higher Primary School has won the invitational under-13 Girls' Rapid Chess Tournament organised by Derik's Chess School here on Sunday.

She scored the maximum six points in as many rounds to clinch the title. Iora Pinto of St. Agnes Higher Primary School battled her schoolmate Vanessa D'Souza to second place.

The results: 1. Viona D'Cunha 6, 2. Iora Pinto 4.5, 3. Vanessa D' Souza, 4.5, 4. Shwetha 4, 5. Nandita Anand 4, 6. Keerthana 3.5, 7. Shalon Pais 3, 8. Panchami 3, 9. Ramya Pai 3, 10. Sunaina 3.

Best under-11 player: Nandita Anand (Yenepoya International School). Best under-9 player: Keerthana (Sharada Vidyalaya). Best under-7 player: Andria.
