Tirupati
By Our Staff Reporter
TIRUPATI, FEB 21. Speakers at a function organised by the Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) to celebrate "Mathrubhasha Parirakshana Dinotsavam" urged the State Government to get tough with those violating its guidelines on implementation of the official language. Enlisting certain measures to enforce the use of official language in the administration, the TUDA vice-chairman, M. Sriranga Chary, asked the Government to step up campaign for the same. He also urged the Government to enlist the services of linguists and experts on administration to ensure a smooth changeover to Telugu. Suggesting that Telugu be used to the extent possible in writing on boards and banners regarding Government schemes, besides official correspondence, he wanted stringent punishment to those failing to comply with the guidelines. While acting tough is one suggestion, he wanted, on the other hand, that awareness be created among the younger generation on the sweetness of Telugu to make them love their mother tongue. Speakers also urged the Government to encourage original Telugu work in the field of science and technology, where the translation of English versions is rampant. Earlier, the participants paid glorious tributes to the son of the soil, Sankarambadi Sundarachari, the composer of the State anthem, "Maa Telugu Thalliki", by garlanding his statue at Annapurneswari circle in the town. Litterateurs--Samudrala Lakshmaiah, Pulikanti Krishna Reddy, Sailakumar, Vedavyasa Rangabhattar--were among those present.
