PONDICHERRY, FEB. 21 . Excise Department officials arrested 10 persons and seized 4,000 bottles of fake Indian-Made Foreign Liquor in a late night raid on a makeshift hut at Sedarapet here on Sunday. They are searching for Elango of Kurinji Nagar, owner of the unit allegedly producing the brew, and Shanmugham of Sadarapet, who leased out the land, R. Anbazhagan, Deputy Commissioner, Excise, told The Hindu . The employees bottling liquor surrendered without resistance. The officials found 3,600 bottles, each containing 180 ml, packed in cartons for being transported to Tamil Nadu. The bottles had a label, a replica of a rum brand in Tamil Nadu, and details of a breweries company. Also noticed were the hologram of the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation and a price tag of Rs. 52. The officials seized a large quantity of arrack and essence, used for making the liquor. They were keeping surveillance for fake units making liquor for sale in Tamil Nadu.
