Traders' bandh evokes mixed response

CHENNAI,
FEB. 21.
The bandh call given by the traders associations against imposition of Service Tax and Value Added Tax received a mixed response in the city on Monday.
In Purasawalkam, Perambur, Vyasarpadi, T.Nagar, Choolai, Aminjakarai, Tiruvottiyur, George Town, Anna Nagar, Virugambakkam and Tiruvanmiyur and in city suburbs large number of shops remained closed, according to T. Vellaiyan, president, Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangankalin Peravai.
He said a few shops were open on Usman Road at T. Nagar.
The All India Radio and Electronics Association's president, V. Sankar, said the electronics market at Narasingapuram Street and Ritchie Street off Anna Salai all the shops were closed.
However, at Koyambedu, many vegetable and fruit wholesale shops were open and functioned normally, traders said.
