VISAKHAPATNAM, FEB. 21. The national convention of the all-India Central Government employees has decided to finalise a programme of action, culminating in an indefinite strike on the long pending demands, including the setting up of the VI Central Pay Commission. According to the general secretary of East Coast Railway Shramik Union, Ch. Gandhi, the constitutent organisations' national council, joint consultative machinery (JCM) met in New Delhi last week and about 500 delegates representing the Railways, Defence, Post, Central Secretariat, Audit and Accounts, Income-Tax, etc., deliberated on the pending demands of the employees. They adopted a charter of demands which called for setting up the VI CPC, merger of 50 per cent of DA with basic pay with effect from July 1, 2002, instead of April 1, 2004, withdrawal of downsizing schemes, stopping surrender of posts and withdrawal of the new contributory pension scheme.
