CPI meet concludes

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 21. The Communist Party of India (CPI) district conference, which concluded at Nedumangad today, re-elected P. Ramachandran Nair as the party's district council secretary. Forty-five members were elected to the council and five to the cabinet. The conference urged the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, to publish details of utilisation of the relief fund for people affected by the recent tsunami.

Festival of films

The Chalachitra Film Society is organising a festival of films of debutant directors participating in the competition for the Aravindan Puraskaram at Kalabhavan Theatre here on Tuesday and Wednesday. The films to be screened include An ode to lost love (English) by Madhu Ambat, Mathia (Tripuri) by Joseph Pulinthanath, Sancharam (Malayalam) by Liggi J. Pullapalli, Oridam (Malayalam) by Pradeep Kumar, Sowmyam (Malayalam) by K.V. Rajesh, Kaya Taran (Hindi) by Sasikumar, Yanam (Malayalam) by Sunjaya Nambiar, Kaazhcha (Malayalam) by Blessy and Nombaram (Malayalam) by Suneesh.

Dharna

The Shiv Sena will stage a dharna in front of the office of the Chief General Manager of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. here on Tuesday in protest against what it called the failure to improve the capacity of the utility's mobile-phone service, a press note said.
