Coast Guard opens new station

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB. 22. The Coast Guard today opened a new station to provide assistance to fishermen operating near the maritime boundary with Pakistan.

The station at Jakhau will have two hovercraft for operating in shallow water and creeks. It will also provide turn-around facility for interceptor boats patrolling the area.

The forward operational base close to the maritime boundary was set as per the recommendations of the Group of Ministers on National Security following the Kargil conflict. The panel had asked for the plugging of gaps in the vicinity of ``not-so-friendly'' neighbours.
