dated February 23, 1955: David Ben Gurion

Mr. David Ben Gurion, Israel's first Prime Minister, who retired over a year ago to become a shepherd, took office again in Jerusalem on February 21 as Minister of Defence. Thousands cheered as he entered Parliament in the dust-stained shepherd's clothes. He was asked to return as Defence Minister to replace Mr. Pinhas Lavon, who resigned last week. He will serve under Mr. Moshe Sharett, his former Foreign Minister.
