Ganguly, Shukla make merry

NAGPUR, FEB. 22. Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Sourav Ganguly toyed with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) XI bowlers as East Zone piled up 356 for five on the first day of their Duleep Trophy match at the Vidarbha Cricket Association ground here on Tuesda.

BCB captain Mohammad Ashraful's decision to field boomeranged with Shukla (123, 143b, 16x4 5x6) going berserk and Ganguly (110 batting, 169b, 14x4, 1x6) deciding to brush off the rust before the Pakistan series.

BCB began well with Anwar Hossai Munir removing Test discard Shiv Sundar Das for four.

Abdur Razzak then struck claiming the wicket of M.S. Dhoni (51, 71b, 8x4, 1x6) just when the young Indian wicketkeeper was looking dangerous.

Razzak claimed two more wickets as Rohan Gavaskar wasted a chance to impress the selectors and opener Arindam Das failed to go far even after getting the start.

Ganguly and his Bengal team-mate Shukla then took the centre-stage with the latter being particularly harsh on the BCB bowlers.

They put on 205 runs for the fifth wicket before Talha Jubair finally brought the curtain on Shukla's entertaining innings by trapping him leg before.
