Airtel offers new broadband services

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB. 22. Airtel today stirred the market for broadband services by announcing multiple price point packages beginning from Rs. 249 a month for speeds up to 64 kbps. The company also announced lower one-time upfront charges including installation and registration costs and security deposit. Airtel now provides broadband and telephone services in Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh-West (Noida) and Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarhand claims a DSL subscriber base of over one lakh in its circles of operation.

Company officials said the tariff packages announced included the flexi-plan, which allows customers to utilise the monthly charges either on Internet usage or on voice usage or both. "The initiative will provide a major boost to the penetration of broadband services in the country,'' said the officials. Airtel is offering bandwidth packages of 64 kbps, 128 kbps, 256 kbps, 384 Kpbs and 512 kbps.
