BANGALORE, FEB. 22. Campaign Against Child Labour-Karnataka (CACL-K) has launched a campaign to sensitise candidates contesting the gram panchayat elections to child rights issues. This follows the success of a similar programme in bringing about children's issues to the fore at the national level during the Lok Sabha elections. "Almost all parties included children's needs in their manifestos. They realised the importance and value of it," Vasudeva Sharma, member of the CACL-K, said at a press conference here on Tuesday. "As much as 30 per cent of the gram panchayat budget is allocated for community development. We would like to see more of it being spent on children's development," Mr. Sharma said.
