Is it necessary?

Sir, — The report of the ferry tragedy in Bangladesh that claimed over 100 lives (Feb. 21) was disturbing.

Though the photograph on page one tells an apt story, is it not advisable for the media to exercise restraint while publishing the photographs of grieving relatives? Of late, there seems to be an increasing trend in the media to resort to this avoidable phenomenon.

K.S. Thampi,
Chennai
