PNG defeats Nepal

KUALA LUMPUR, FEB. 22. Papua New Guinea (PNG) defeated Nepal by 72 runs on Tuesday, the opening day of the ICC World Cup qualifying series division 2 tournament in Malaysia, an event that will determine the final qualifying spot for July's ICC Trophy 2005.

In other matches, Fiji, Kuwait and Qatar also recorded wins in their opening matches of the tournament.

Inspired by Jamie Brazier, who hit 97 from 83 balls, PNG rattled up 240 for eight in its 50 overs after winning the toss. Nepal mustered 168 for nine in 50 overs.

In Group B, Qatar beat Zambia by nine wickets while Fiji beat Cayman Islands by nine runs. — UNI
