TIRUMALA, FEB. 22. The TTD management on Monday shifted the `Kalyanakatta' -- the place of offering of hair by pilgrims, into the new premises constructed adjacent to the existing building. The sprawling new complex constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.70 crores in all consists of about 112 bathrooms and toilets. Here, it may be recalled that, on an average more than 45,000 pilgrims visit the hill temple at Tirumala, everyday and more than one third of the pilgrims get their heads shaved in fulfilment of their vows, fetching an income of more than Rs. 24 crores by way of sale of human hair. It is just to cope up with the increasing demand from the visiting pilgrims, the management shifted the Kalyanakatta to the new premises which apart from housing the basic facilities also is equipped with two spacious halls, hot water facilities and dressing rooms. Prominent among others, who participated in the function include the TTD Special Officer, A.V. Dharma Reddy, the Deputy Executive Officer (KKC), Venkateswara Varma, and other officials.
