ANANTAPUR, FEB. 22. The district administration is taking up wage employment works under the National Food For Work (NFFW) programme to check the migration of labourers, the District Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, said here today. But, they were not in a position to stop the migration for better wages and opportunities, she said. They were ready to provide wage work to anybody who was on the brink of hunger, she said at a press conference here. Ms Anuradha explained that 4,854 works under the NFFW programme were sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs. 18.62 crores. Of these, 418 works were grounded and two were completed so far, she said.
Work for panchayats
The beneficiaries would get Rs. 100 per day for two cubic meters of soil work. Once the works under the NFFW programme were completed the administration would take up works under the Food Assurance Scheme. But, the response to the FAS before the launch of the NFFW programme was not encouraging, she observed. The Joint Collector, Shashibhushan Kumar, said all the gram panchayats in the district were allotted works. The allotment of works was done based on the population and the BPL families. Accordingly, three to 10 works were allotted to each gram panchayat. While some gram panchayats were allotted works up to Rs. 4 lakhs, 82 gram panchayats had got lesser allocation of up to Rs. 50,000 worth works each. However, such villages would be compensated with works under other programmes like FAS, he said.
